Kabiru Ado Lakwaya, new Sports and Youth Development commissioner in Kano says the ministry will give priority attention to sports and youth development.
Lakwaya made the statement in Kano on Thursday shortly after he resumed duty.
It would be recalled that Lakwaya was among 21 other commissioners sworn-in on Wednesday by Abdullahi Ganduje.
He said that the ministry had two responsibilities, stating that no one will be taken more seriously than the other.
“I want to assure you that it is not going to be business as usual, this time, we shall take the ministry to a new level.
“Priority attention will be given to the two areas covered by the ministry’s mandate, we shall develop both sports and youths,” he said.
The commissioner said that huge attention would be given to community-based sports development.
“The grassroots is a grooming and hunting ground for great sports talents, we shall not leave them behind.
“We shall engage our young men and women meaningfully in sports, they must be kept busy for greater impact on the society,” he said.
Earlier, Ibrahim Ahmad-Sagagi, Permanent Secretary of the ministry, commended the governor for fulfilling his promise to appoint a youth as commissioner of youths and sports development.
Also speaking, the chairman, Kano State Sports Commission, Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima congratulated the commissioner, and urged him to achieve set goals.
