Journalists have been charged to imbibe the culture of reporting migration issue, aimed at strengthening migration Governance in the country.
A member of the civil society Network on migration and Development Dr. Emeka Chris Obeazu gave the charge during a two day training for media agencies on migration reportage.
The workshop was supported by the International Organization for migration in conjunction with the European Union,held in Kano.
He said the various researches conducted by his organisation revealed that there were challenges in terms of understanding of basic migration concept, misappropriation in terms of usage of terminologies on migration.
He therefore said there is the need to acqauint journalists with the requisite knowledge on how to report migration issue.
Chris maitained that the workshop was targeted at improving the knowledge of media personnel on migrants rights so as to enhance the policy on migration Governance.
He said the organisation was in communication with the National commission for refugee migrants and internal displaced persons on modalities of how to achieved the stated objectives.
Chris added that similar workshop was conducted in Abuja and Benin with the aim of intergrating the media into the national migration architecture.
The workshop was attended by media practitioners from various outfits within and outside Kano.
